From the ‘Concerns’ Desk ... January 2007
With every new edition the readership of www.artconcerns.com is steadily increasing. It is a good thing to know that those people from abroad who follow the Indian contemporary art scene quite closely refer to www.artconcerns.com.
Australia based South East Asian art scholar and researcher Gina Fairley, in her South Asian Art Report 2007 highlights the role of www.artconcerns.com. She says that it is the best portal available now for knowing more about Indian contemporary art. We have reproduced her report in our Essay section.
After a brief lull, the art market once again looks bright and we can hope more sunny days are ahead.
Our February 1st issue is quite interesting. New York based Brian Weinstein has written a crisp feature on the works of Bhupen Khakhar that he has been collecting for a few years. He fondly remembers the friendship with the departed artist.
The cover story deals with site specificity of art, keeping Chintan Upadhyaya’s site specific work ‘Tetuan Dabaa Do’. We present the young artist Mahesh Baliga in our Spring Board section and present a work by Prajakta Potnis in the Gallery section. Abhijeet Tamhane writes about the Mumbai art scene in his column titled ‘Mumbai Sketchbook’. And there are many more exciting stories.
Wish you all the best. Enjoy reading.
Yours,
JohnyML
