| We present two latest paintings by Chanchal Banga |
Chanchal Banga
Small fetuses ooze out of the landscapes of Chanchal Banga. These landscapes don't resemble the contours of what are naked eye sees as the universal gift to mankind, but instead resemble the concept of the exclusive Garden of Eden that has been offered only to this unborn presence. Chanchal's works are not about statements on the grim social realities but speak only about the process of becoming. The works house the presence of the infants without any insight into the future that awaits. Clutching to trees and their roots, the fetuses seem to cling to an umbilical cord that might tie them to the earth. The ominous premonition that sooner or later this cord will be shred into pieces is left untouched in the surety and comfort of being in home. The brusque strokes, the dripping paints, the wedges of forms all create a tension in the landscape-home of this child.
I look out
I see the surrounding
In their I breath
In there I exist
I want to feel comfort like a breathing embryo in placenta
