‘Pastiche’ at Red Earth Gallery, Baroda

Red Earth Gallery, Baroda presents a group show of West Bengal based artists. Curated by Aparna Roy, this show is titled ‘Pastiche’. The show will be inaugurated at the gallery located in Lanxess  A.B.S GALLERY .A.B.S GALLERY ,A.B.S TOWERS, OLD PADRA.Rd, BARODA. On 19th January 2007. Pastiche will be on view till 27th of this month. “My intention is to deal with the history of visuals through a debate on originality of a work of art,” curator Aparna Roy told www.artconcerns.com.

Omsoorya at Birla Academy of Art and Culture

Mumbai based Birla Academy of Art and Culture kicked off the new year with a solo show of Omsoorya. Working from Hyderabad, Omsoorya has been participating in a lot of important shows all over India. Studied at Trivandrum and Hyderabad, Omsoorya’s works are noticed for its freshness of expression. The show will be on till 25th January 2007.

Broken Boundaries by Dilip Sur

Guild Gallery presents selected works of the noted artist Dilip Sur in a solo titled ‘Broken Boundaries’. The show opened successfully on 12th January. Oscillating between an expressionist urgency and the abstractionist verve, Dilip Sur’s works have caught the attention of Indian art lovers. The show will be on till 25th January 2007.

Surya Prakash at India Fine Art

Senior artist Surya Prakash presents his latest canvases at a show titled ‘Beyond Colours’ at the India Fine Arts, Gallery in Mumbai. Sprawling landscapes and forest scapes done using pointillist brush strokes give a soothing experience to the viewer. Gallery director Manvinder Singh told www.artconerns.com that ‘Beyond Colours’ is the first in a series of shows by senior Indian artists to be held in India Fine Arts in 2007.

 Aji VN at Mirchandani and Steinruecke Gallery

Amsterdam based Aji VN presents his first major solo show in India. The show opens on 16th January 2006. Aji has been working from Amsterdam for the last six years. He studied painting from Trivandrum Fine Arts College and Delhi College of Art. He was noticed by the art lovers when he exhibited his works in a show titled ‘Four by Four’ in Kashi Gallery, Kochi last year. Aji has published a volume on his works in 2005.

Tangerine Art Space presents Fourteen Young Artists in Bangalore
                         
Bangalore based art promoter and the director of the newly established Tangerine Art Space, Leena Chethan will present a group show of fourteen young artists in Bangalore CKP exhibition hall on 1st February 2007. Anil Kumar, Mahesh G, Mahesh Baliga, Sujith SN, Sujith KS, Siji, Shefali Jain, Piyali Ghosh, Benitha Percial, Lochan Upadhyaya, Lokesh Khodke, Swapna Biswas, Reji Arakkal and Bhagat are the participating artists. “These artists are very fresh. Some of them are still in art schools. I found that they have a very special way of expressing themselves though they do not share any common language,” said Leena Chethan. “However, most of them show a tendency to move away from the mediatic realism and generate more surrealistic images,” she added.

M.Sashidharan at Viart Gallery

Baroda based artist M.Sashidharan’s solo show, The Edge opens on 15th January 2007 in New Delhi. Presented by Viart Gallery, the show will take place at the Lalit Kala Akademy Galleries, New Delhi. Sasidharan will present canvases, paper works and a few conceptual sculptures.

Vadehra Grosvenor presents Indian Contemporary art Part III

Titled ‘Part III: Here and now: Young voices from India’ Vadehra Grosvenor Gallery, London will present the third and final part of its ongoing presentations on contemporary Indian art. The show will consist of works by twenty-six leading contemporary Indian artists (Subodh Gupta, Atul Dodiya, T.V Santosh etc). In recent years Indian has witnessed the emergence of a to new generation of artists. Their pioneering works have forced us to question our assumptions about Indian art as they break from tradition into new mediums and styles. At Here and Now  painting and sculpture will stand side by side with photography and installation. Artists exhibiting will include Subodh Gupta, a painter, photographer, installation and video artist. His large scale works of metallic pots and pans attracting huge interest at Art Basel and the Frieze Art Fair, London. Just as Duchamp before him Gupta seeks to ‘elevate found objects from ordinary items to works of art’ capturing IndiaR17;s urban transformation whilst remembering his humble roots.
 Other Artists include Atul Dodiya, ‘acknowledged leader of the younger generation’ whose recent exhibitions include a major show in New York. Dodiya’s works play with a wide range of styles and artistic concepts making reference to religious paintings, movie posters, billboards and calendar art. Dodiya’s series of works painted on commercial roller shutters, which the viewer can roll up and down to reveal a contrasting image beneath, demonstrate IndiaR17;s conflict between outward appearances and inward realities. Other artists exhibiting will be Bharati; Vasundhara Tewari Broota; Jayashree Chakravarthi; Atul Dodiya; Anju Dodiya; Subodh Gupta; Jitish Kallat; Rajnish Kaur; Bharti Kher; Valsan Kolleri; Bari Kumar; C. Mazumdar; Shibu Natesan; Prajakta Pallav; Pranati Panda; Manisha Parekh; Bariju Parthan; Sumedh Rajendran; T.V Santhosh; Mithu Sen; Thukral and Tagra; Anjum Singh; Hema Upadhyay.

‘Soft Spoken’- Bose curates six young women artists
‘Soft Spoken’, a group show of six young women artists curated by Bose Krishnamachari will open on 5th February 2007 at the Jehangir Nicholson Gallery, NCPA. Presented by Aditya Ruiah of the Bombay Art Gallery, Soft Spoken will have Minal Damani, Prajakta Potnis, Sheetal Ghattani, Varunika Saraf, Prabhavati Meppayil and Parvati Nayyar as participating artists. “I look at the surface of their works, the modes of their articulation of concerns. Soft spoken-ness is the quality that I find common in their works,” Bose Krishnamachari told www.artconcerns.com
