From the ‘Concerns’ Desk ... April 2008
April cannot be the cruelest of months. This is spring time for Indian contemporary art. March gave us further indications that April is going to be there with full of blooms.
Dubai Art Fair with the participation of Espace Gallery, New Delhi and Sakshi Gallery and Gallery Chemould, Mumbai along with many other international galleries once again brought the Indian contemporary art into focus. Interestingly, this time many international galleries vied each other to present Indian artists along with other international stalwarts.
Bose Krishnamachari curated a twin show titled ‘AFFAIR’ for the 1x1 Gallery, Dubai and this show reiterated the presence of the young Indian artists in the international forums.
Back home, Saffron’s auction raised the value of many Indian contemporaries. Happy times are here and it is going to prevail.
As we know, now art is all about business and market. Artists and all those people who work in this field acknowledge this fact, at times covertly and at other times overtly. Keeping this in mind, let us say that all what is done in the name art, in the long run, should add value to the creativity of artists.
Let business be the best of arts because we are in the time of ‘Culturonomics’.
With no cynicism to mar the spirit of it, as the new Indians, let us add value to Culturonomics.
Yours
