The narratives that Neema Vagela creates in her canvases delineate the life of women in contemporary times. The images are at times autobiographical and at times culled out from what the artist sees in her surroundings. The woman protagonist is always given an iconic status in her works. Caught up in existential and challenging situations, these image of women look starkly at the viewer. Educated at the Fine Arts Faculty, MS University, Baroda, Neema Vagela looks at her role as a chronicler of woman’s life. She looks at women as active players in domestic and public lives. In most of her paintings one can see a young girl tenderly holding a doll and looking out of the frame. Born in Ahmedabad, Neema Vagela works from Baroda. She has participated in a few group shows in ABS Red Earth Galleries, Baroda.
