Bioscope of Ram Rahman at Bodhi, LKA, New Delhi

Bodhi Gallery, New Delhi presents the photographic oeuvre of the Delhi based dynamic-activist photography aritst Ram Rahman in a solo show titled ‘Bioscope, Scenes from an Eventful Life’ at the Lalit Kala Akademy Galleries, New Delhi. The show opens on 2nd February 2008 and will be on view till 15th February 2008. The show will have the most important images from Ram Rahman’s three decade long career.
Vadehra Gallery, Delhi initiates Gallery Walk Through
Perhaps, first of its kind amongst the galleries in the capital city, Vadehra Art Gallery recently initiated a Gallery Walk Through program. First in the series, Mumbai based artist Baiju Parthan, who is currently having his solo show ‘Liquid Memory+Rant’ at Vadehra came along with art critic Ranjit Hoskote and discussed his art ‘live’ before an interested audience on 28th January 2008. All the galleries in India should organize such programs for connecting the works of art with an interested public and also for generating demystifying debates.
‘On Paper’ at Gallery with Difference, Kolkata
The galleries are getting too imaginative these days in naming themselves. Kolkata based Gallery with Difference recently presented a group show of Alok Bal, Debraj Goswami, Sharmi Choudhury, Balaji Ponna, Piyali Ghosh, Shahin Mansuri, Debashree Das, Anil Kumar, Mahesh Baliga, Satheesh Kumar K, Pawan Kumar M, Mahesh G, Santhosh and Panduranga Shirsat. Titled ‘On Paper’ the show is curated by Aparna Roy. The show will be on view till 15th February 2008.
Ram Kumar at Chemould Prescott, Mumbai

Chemould Prescott, Mumbai invites art lovers to celebrate its first anniversary in the new premises on Saturday 2 February 2008, from 7 pm onwards. To mark the occasion the gallery presents the recent works of the veteran artist Ram Kumar. The exhibition continues until 9 February 2008 from 11 am to 7 pm.
“Remembering my early ties with Gallery Chemould I had been thinking for some time to hold a small exhibition in the gallery as a homage to Kekoo Gandhy, whom I have known for more than 50 years. The exhibition is a symbolic gesture to pay homage and honour him for his efforts to promote contemporary Indian Art especially in Bombay,” said Ram Kumar.
‘Outside In’ of Pablo Bartholomew at National Museum, Delhi

Bodhi Art Gallery strikes again with another photography exhibition. Titled ‘Outside in! Tale of 3 Cities. The 70s&80s’ the show features the works of the noted photography artist Pablo Bartholomew. The show was inaugurated on the 27th January 2008 at the National Museum, Janapath and the will be on view till 29th February 2008.
Cartier Bresson, Umrao Sher-Gil, Alkazi Collection and Magnum at NGMA, Delhi
The National Gallery of Modern Art, Ministry of Culture Government of India, Embassy of France together presents a historical show of photographs at the NGMA, Jaipur House, New Delhi. The show features the works of the legendary French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson, the photographic works of Umrao Singh Sher-Gil, different perspective of India by the Magnum photo agency and the photography collection of the pioneer art collector Ibrahim Alkazi. The show was inaugurated on 27th January 2008. And will be on view till 13th February 2008.
Rakesh Kumar at Birla Gallery, Mumbai

Birla Gallery, Mumbai presents a solo show of the works of Rakesh Kumar. Titled ‘Voice of Silence’, the show started on 25th January 2008 and will be on view till 8th February 2008.
Khoj Connect Released
Delhi based Khoj International Studios released the first online issue of its newsletter, Khoj Connect. This free online quarterly newsletter is designed to popularize Khoj’s projects and activities amongst the art lovers. Khoj Connect has published its past, current and future projects in it. It also opens a window for those young artists who want to do experimental and cutting edge art. Khoj Connect follows the lines of Arts Connect, another print newsletter of IFA, Bangalore, which also partly funds the activities of Khoj.
Alexander Devasia’s Mekham at Pundole, Mumbai

Germany based artist Alexander Devasia’s first solo show in Mumbai opened at the Pundole Art Gallery, Mumbai on 28th January 2008. Titled ‘Mekham’ (Cloud), the show will be on view till 9th February 2008. Alexander Devasia did his BFA in painting from Trivandrum Fine Arts College and later did his MFA in MS University, Baroda. He shifted to Germany in early 1990s and since then he has been working as a freelance artist and a theatre designer.
Sandwich at Stainless, New Delhi
A group show of four artists namely George Martin PJ, Rupa Paul, Rose Vera and Mathew Fitche opened on 27th January 2008 at the Stainless Gallery, Delhi. Curiously titled ‘Sandwich’ the show presented the urban imageries of Martin and Rupa while the Australians Rose and Mathew presented digital imageries and abstract paintings respectively. The show concluded on 30th January 2008.
Shobha Broota at Aicon Gallery, Palo Alto
Aicon Gallery Palo Alto presents a solo exhibition of Shobha Broota titled ‘Path Beyond’. She has painted various subjects and themes and has experimented with both figuration and abstraction. These recent works, as Anirudh Chari eloquently notes in the catalogue essay, are "emancipated from the shackles of motif." Hence Broota’s works take on a more minimalist language. The show opens on 1st February 2008.
Mrityunjay Mondal at India Fine Arts
Mumbai based India Fine Arts Gallery presents a solo show of the noted artist Mrityunjayl Mondal. Titled the ‘Classical Contemporary’ the show started on 24th January 2008 and will be on view till 6th February 2008.
Chintan Upadhyay at Gallery Espace, New Delhi
Gallery Espace presents Metastasis of Signs: A walk in the realm of manipulated realitites, recent works by Chintan Upadhyay. Currently one of the biggest names in the Indian contemporary art scene, the exhibition marks Chintan’s magnum opus of the year 2008 and comes after his path breaking shows in other parts of India and abroad. Metastasis of Signs comprises of the artist’s most recent paintings and a composite installation of metal, music and video. The works will be on view from the 10-29 February 2008.
Triva Gallery presents ‘Representations III’
Trivandrum based Gallery, TRIVA Contemporary, opens a new space with a group show of 15 Artists titled "Representation - III" on 15th of February 2008. Participating Artists are Ashutosh Bhardwaj, Lavanya Mani, Leon K L, Lokesh Khodke, Martin O C, Minal Damani, Pradeep Kumar K P, Pradeep Puthoor, Premji T P, Reji Sajith A S, Santhosh Lal, Sathyanand Mohan, Sebastian C Varghese, Upendranath T R. The Show will continue till 25th February 2008.
Art Musings Presents Three Women Artists
Mumbai based Art Musings Gallery presents a group show of three eminent women artists of India, namely Nalini Malani, Jayashree Chakravarty and Reena Saini Kallat. The show opens on 12th February 2008 at the Museum Gallery, Kalaghoda, Mumbai. After a week the show will be taken to the Art Musings and will be open for viewing till 31st March 2008.
K.S.Radhakrishnan at Karma Gallery, Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad based Karma Gallery presents a selection of works from the noted sculptor K.S.Radhakrishnan. Titled ‘The Impudence of Musui’, the show will start on 22nd February 2008 and will be on view for a month.
