Happy Birth Day to you…Mr.M.F.Husain
The Delhi art fraternity turned up at the VP House lawns to celebrate the 92nd Birth Day of the legendary painter M.F.Husain on 2nd October 2007. Organised by SAHMAT, New Delhi, the occasion turned out to be a very touching affair as M.F.Husain came online through a web cam from his Dubai residence and greeted his lovers in Delhi. Artists, galleries, dealers, academicians and well wishers came forward to greet him and bid him good wishes, long life and good health. Noted social activist and film personality Shabna Azmi talked about Husain and her interactions with the master artist. Husain’s kith and kin from Delhi also came to attend the function. Husain, like a dotting father asked his artist son Shamshad Husain whether he was following the rituals of the holy month of Ramzan. Celebrations were pepped up with chats, sweets and chai. Commercial artists from the Abbas Studio painted a hoarding sized canvas with the images from Husain’s paintings. The street bands played Husain’s favorite songs like Mera Joota Hai Japani and many other songs from his youthful days. Noted designer and photographer Parthiv Shah presented a series of photographs of M.F.Husain in an impromptu exhibition. Films like Gaja Gamini: Meeaxi, a Tale of Three cities, Through the Eyes of a Painter, directed by M.F.Husain were screened during the celebrations. www.artconcerns.com presents a few images from the Birth Day Celebrations.
